I’ve been listening to Daft Punk since I was 15. It makes me sad, but I can’t remember the name of the guy I went to camp with who introduced me to Daft punk. But I have everything to thank this guy, he had “Homework” on a mini-disk player. I don’t think I’d ever listened to any electronic music before in my life, and I’m so grateful.
Daft Punk lead to Prodigy, which lead to Crystal Method, which lead to Fatboy Slim, which lead to DJ Shadow which lead to this whole avenue of turntablism and one of the most awesome musical periods of my life. I bought “Discovery” in the virgin mega-store in time square when I was on my senior trip, I heard “Harder Better Faster Stronger” 100% on my own with no hype and it was one of the best musical listening experiences of my early years. Anyhow, I owe so much to Daft Punk and all the retro disco electro stuff they produce. I thought it would be fun to do a version of their cover for “Random Access Memories” themed like the 70’s disco groove they are summoning in this record. I’ll post the uncropped version of the rainbow robots later this week in a special separate post.
