I saw a post reddit, where the chalk board writing outside a bar said “farts are just the ghosts of food we’ve eaten”. Brilliant, I thought it was perfect for me always illustrating the life and death of food characters. This fit with the 1940’s diner art like I’ve done before, and the grossness of farting contrasts well with the cheery characters and how happy the food ghosts are to have been killed and processed by the trenchcoat man’s ass.
I Won't Explain

Seriously, I’m not going to explain this one. If you get this joke and know the original ytmnd.com this was derived from, you’ll know. If you don’t get it… I’m sorry.

I tend to use my phone a lot, my wife will tell you. Some days it gets a little out of control and it doesn’t leave my face, other times I’m just checking e-mail or looking up something to pass the time. The funny part is I actively try and live in the moment and not try and spend time on my phone, it just inevitably happens. It’s hard to live without our phones anymore.
This is the End
May 22, 2013
I’ve changed a lot in the last 3 years, I can’t believe the volume of work I’ve been able to produce and how many weeks I’ve been able to not skip. I’ve grown and aged mentally and physically unfortunately, I’m starting to turn as grey as my rendering, no doubt. But the time is coming that I’m starting to get very little joy out of the drawings anymore. It’s been a great series and concept to run with, but I need to move on to new work and concepts.
So I’m hanging up my hat as Comical Concept but I’m going to keep producing work as Nathan Batson. I want to move on and try some other mediums, like oil paint. Experimenting outside my fast workflow and accommodating my work schedule is hard, so rather than disappoint and miss weekly art I’m just going to end Comical so I can enjoy producing work more. It’s kind of sad and I know some of you will be disappointed, all 12 of you, but it’s been an uphill struggle for the last 3-4 months to keep producing things. The website won’t be going away anytime soon, if you come to the site and you wind up at http://nathanbatson.com/ I’ll be eventually archiving this site’s work into my site and I’ll have 301 redirects from all the correct urls to the new ones. I’m going to stop producing work as Comical Concept, but I’m not about to give up that sweet sweet google relevance.
During some of my newfound spare time I’m going to be converting artwork to the largest renderable sizes for some online printing and random merch. I’ll be posting them up on RedBubble and doing a lot of printing for myself. I’m planning on creating a big wall project with all my favorite illustrations in one big wall collage.
If you follow me on Twitter, you might want to start following @nathanbatson to see anything new I’ll produce with less constraints, time and conceptual, and stay for my web development ramblings. The facebook page will just chill and collect dust. It’s been real fun and a great experience, but I’m hanging it up on a highish note instead of pulling the classic web comic, never updating, only posting once every couple months then never being heard from again.
